Commitment to Speaking Peace and Truth
After Tuesday's election results, no one has answers to the questions as to what will happen and how immigration processes will change. What about asylum? Will families be separated again? Will ICE go knocking on doors? The uncertainty and fear are real and acute.
In this moment and in the years to come, RILA is committed to speaking peace and truth to uncertainty and fear. We may encounter more obstacles than before, but that means our work is all the more crucial for ensuring that our clients' claims are heard and adjudicated fairly. And more than only “winning,” our presence and partnership with our clients provides critical support and understanding that they are not alone. We are joining in God’s work of welcoming the sojourner and bringing peace to those who are afraid.
The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down;|
The Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the sojourners;
He upholds the widow and the fatherless.
Psalm 146:8-9
As we have done since our first clinic in 2016, RILA will continue to stand by and seek justice and protection on behalf of the most vulnerable immigrants in our communities. We are preparing our clients for potential changes in immigration law and policies by ensuring they are well-informed and advised on the inevitable changes and developments to come. We are collaborating with our peer organizations and community partners to strategize how to support and advocate for the dignity and safety of our immigrant neighbors and their families.
Thank you for supporting our unchanging mission – providing excellent legal assistance to those who need it the most. Here are two ways you can partner with us in that mission today:
Sign up to volunteer. Haven’t been at clinic in a while or looking to get involved for the first time? Send Mel an email to volunteer in a client meeting or simply sign up to bring dinner. We’d love to have you join us in welcoming and serving our clients on a Monday evening soon.
Give to RILA. Every dollar makes a difference in our work and encourages our team.
We are thankful for every individual who partners with us!
